– An op-ed by the editorial staff –

This is the widow of a man who has just been killed by shelling in the city center of Donetsk. While she vents her grief, CNN puts this trailer on the screen!

Back in January 2015, CNN carried news of bombardment in the Donetsk city center. The video is compelling, and emotive.

« Families destroyed in the blink of an eye. »

And yet, they had to deny that the US-backed government in Kiev was doing it. While the widow is wanting revenge for the killing of her husband, CNN makes itself complicit in the war crime by cleaning the hands of the Kiev putschist government.

Where were the shells coming from? CNN pretended not to know. Plain and simple truth: CNN was already lying about the war in Ukraine in January of 2015. Now, two years later, the lie is by omission. No coverage at all.

What an outrageous injustice, and these are not just isolated instances of the formerly mainstream media – now just ‘legacy media’ – making ‘fake news’ stories.

We can see in the CNN clip above, what appears at first to be some fairly decent reporting of the horrors of war. This is a war of ethno-religious cleansing, genocide by any working definition, brought to the ethnic Russians living in the east of Ukraine, by none other than former President Barack Hussein Obama and his neo-con cabinet.

What strikes us instantly though is their caption.. ‘Unclear …’. Everyone being shelled knows exactly who is shelling them.

The report concludes by attempting to deceive, posing a false contradiction meant to leave viewers to ‘sort it out for themselves – even though Russia is helping those being shelled, they were the ones who backed separatists who seized the city.

Hearing that, obviously, one is led to conclude an utter absurdity, that the shelling and the seizing of the city are one and the same, and the ‘contradiction/hypocrisy’ here is that Russian backed separatists were the ones who are, today, shelling the city. Those familiar with the conflict, and where it stands today, would instantly understand that CNN is inferring that the separatists are shelling themselves and their own base of support, the citizen base that supports the revolution.

That CNN is now actively promoting the censorship and ostracizing of independent journalism is simultaneously no surprise, and an affront to whatever dignity humanity in the west still holds onto.

Fort Russ, recently named by the Washington Post, in the ‘Prop or Not’ short list of ‘fake news sites’, is proud to be a remaining bastion of free and independent journalism, committed to sharing counter-narratives, the inconvenient truths, and voices of resistance and hope from around the world.

We believe that only an ever vigilant people, who maintain their right to free press by exercising it, can act as a check, [and ultimately a guillotine!] against the genocidal inclinations of the elites in charge of western governments and institutions.

Like Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Syria – Eastern Ukraine has been in the cross-hairs of the US. What the US has committed are war crimes and crimes against humanity.

What has become apparent, and this is something we are optimistic about, is that increasing numbers of people are awakening to the fact that – ‘bat-boy lives’ tabloids aside – it’s the legacy media outlets like CNN, NBC, ABC, (and so and so on) which are the world’s largest and most criminal offenders in the realm of Fake News.

OSCE observers fraternize with Ukrainian tankers using residential Avdeevka as human shields

Posted: 02 Feb 2017 10:26 AM PST
February 2, 2017 – Fort Russ News –

Christelle Neant in DONiPRESS, translated by Tom Winter –
« OSCE February 1, 2017. Tanks? Not here. »
The Ukrainian army has redeployed heavy artillery and multiple rocket launchers near the front line, as noted by international observers. [For more on this buildup, click]

Weapons that are used from children’s playgrounds, schools, or the Avdeyevka coke plant, allow the Ukrainian army to use the civilians who live there and work as human shields.

Yesterday the residents of Avdeyevka shared photos and videos taken in the afternoon showing OSCE observers having a sympathetic discussion with Ukrainian soldiers near the Ukrainian army tanks that were in the middle of the residential area, at Number 20 Molodyozhnaya Street.

While the deputy head of the OSCE mission, Alexander Hug, is trying to have the ceasefire respected (which allowed the repair work of the water treatment plant to take place and to restart), his subordinates in territory controlled by the Ukrainian army protect the Nazis who used artillery and tanks from the dwellings of Avdeyevka to fire on the cities of Donetsk, Makeyevka and Yasinovataya.

All this gives the impression that some representatives of the OSCE are trying to aggravate the situation by informing the Ukrainian army of the best places and times to shoot, to reach vital infrastructures, or prevent repairs from taking place.

In view of this new scandal, the authorities of the DNR have demanded that this flagrant violation of the OSCE mandate give rise to an investigation and that measures be taken for observers to objectively cover the situation — without concealing the crimes of the army against civilians.

For his part, Alexander Zakharchenko, the head of the People’s Republic of Donetsk, has issued assurances, saying that these attacks are those of a regime in its agonies and that despite the civilian losses of the last few days, victory is, from now on, at hand.

Romania: Revolt, indeed. But whose revolt and against who?

Posted: 02 Feb 2017 10:08 AM PST
February 2nd, 2017 – For Russ News –
– By Modeste Schwartz – from Visegrad Post –

Romania – A series of relatively important demonstrations took place in the Romanian capital and some other provincial cities. About 50,000 people (according to the authorities) protested on February 1, 2017, against the new government appointed following the December elections. It is the most important demonstration since December 2014. Unprecedented, the President of the Republic, Klaus Iohannis, openly supports these demonstrations. Some speak of “tineriad”, recycling to the term “mineriad“, but this time referring not to minors but to young people, tineri. The writer Modeste Schwartz gives us his analysis of the events.

To eliminate from the outset any simplistic polemics: yes, a sizable portion of the political staff of the Romanian Social Democratic Party (in power since last December, in the form of the Grindeanu government) is “corrupt” – meaning: they are guilty of taking bribes, abuse of public funds, etc.) as is the entire Romanian political class – without exception! –, and as indeed is (as the Fillon affair now demonstrates) nearly the entirety of European political class. The self-proclaimed captain of the “crusade against corruption” that the European media is currently seeking to frame as a “youth revolution”, the 57-year-old Klaus Johannis (president of Romania), prior to his entry into politics, was a high school physics teacher in his hometown of Sibiu. At that time, a high school teacher in Romania earned less than 300 € / month. This same Johannis (of which evil tongues whisper that he would be the son-in-law of a former high-ranking officer of the communist secret police) owns seven houses in Sibiu (a prosperous tourist town, beautifully restored, where real estate prices are at a premium) and declared, while somehow keeping a straight face, having purchased them on income (otherwise undeclared …) he received from giving private lessons!

As for the new party “United we Save Romania” (USR), which presents itself as the great generational and cultural alternative (unfortunately, totally devoid of any real political program outside the famous “anti-corruption” mysticism), its charismatic leader, the French woman (married to a Romanian) Clotilde Armand, recently stated that she “regrets” having pocketed vast funds “for advisory activities” from the multinational Bechtel corporation, which built in Transylvania one of the shortest and most expensive highways in the history of construction.

Consequently, assuming that Romanians emerge from the political apathy which remains their majority attitude, one would expect “non-political” protests, demanding such changes as amending the constitution, a complete replacement of political personnel, direct democracy, or whatever. This is not the case: the 50,000 protesting “Romanian youth” (official figure, probably overestimated – but, would it be true: the government in place owes its legitimacy to … 4 million ballots – amounting to 80 voters for one protester …) demand explicitly, and increasingly violently and illegally, the fall (and even the banning) of the PSD; as for the alternative in power they are thinking of (during those incredibly rare occasions in which they do actually think), the presence in the ranks of the demonstrators of President Johannis (initially brought to power by the National Liberal Party – PNL, now the main party of the opposition) and USR leaders leaves little room for doubt. The “young, handsome, and free” (according to their own rhetoric) want to replace a corrupt political staff backed by a strong democratic majority by a corrupt political staff with barely any democratic base whatsoever. How can one begin to explain such dementia?

Given that:

1. Many of the protesters are indeed relatively young, deprived of historical awareness and socioeconomic knowledge by the shipwreck of the Romanian (and European) school system and merely follow alpha males and females from their associative surroundings to protests they often experience as street festivals, and which also provide them a golden opportunity to socialize, flirt etc.; and;

2. Another portion of the demonstrators are NGO activists funded by the organizations of the Soros Galaxy and the political foundations that execute the dirty works of German diplomacy in Eastern Europe;

We see that the above question must be split in two, leading to the description of two sets of motivations:

1. With regard to sincere demonstrators: what can lead a significant fraction of a given age group to the degree of social masochism and self-hatred that drives a student to desire to overthrow the government that has just provided him with free use of the national train system, a future employee to demonstrate against the power that increased the base salary after a decade of austerity under the umbrella of IMF-Berlin, etc.? Why do Romanians hate themselves, and each other, that much?

2. Regarding the instigators, and especially their sponsors (i.e. primarily Germany and “Brussels”): why so much hatred? Why are they trying so desperately to bring down the Grindeanu government and the party led by L. Dragnea, at all costs, even though Trump’s victory seems to have deprived them of the secret ingredient (namely the discreet interventions of the secret services under CIA control) which, up until now, ensured the political success of street movements which, in Paris or London, would literally go unnoticed (being, as they are, so marginal and politically amorphous)? Why launch all their troops from the “civil society” in this uncertain battle, at the risk of permanently discrediting them in the event of failure, even though the PSD (which could have repeatedly launched a suspension procedure against Dragnea – and has not done so) seems to be willing to fight with their hands tied, or even to peacefully negotiate?

To answer the first question would require a short treatise on the history and anthropology of Romania, which I shall try to summarize in a later article. For the time being, let us confine ourselves to a very general conclusion: born and raised in a de facto colony where their political behavior (by vote or demonstration) has never had the slightest impact on the real conduct of their country and/or their living conditions, young Romanians literally do not know what politics is, and drool like Pavlov’s dogs to the provocations of professional civil society agitators to participate in these tribal rites of collective purification branded as anti-corruption street festivals.

Answering the second question, on the other hand, requires much less intuition, interpretation, concepts, and philosophy. Indeed, it is sufficient to be informed of the recent steps taken by the Grindeanu government, and of the program of government which it intends to implement in the coming months (which are all in the public domain, but carefully ignored by the Western-controlled Romanian press and almost all of the foreign press) to understand that the Reich-Chancellor Merkel simply cannot accept such a mutiny, or even condescend to negotiate with the mutineers, but requires exemplary punishment – if necessary, according to the methods tested in Kiev.

The Grindeanu government, before adopting those amnesty decrees (objects of much whining to the “young, handsome, and free”) which, contrary to what one reads here and there in the controlled press;

1. were by no means its first measure (see below);

2. do not “legalize corruption” and do not exonerate all acts of corruption (they only institute a threshold of roughly 40,000€, and it seems, in particular, that the charges held against L. Dragnea are not covered by the amnesty) and;

3. were absolutely necessary – since the PSD would be completely unable to govern with the gun of the National Anti-Corruption Directorate (entirely following orders of its Western sponsors) pointed at their collective head,

The Grindeanu government, during the ten days that separated its recent inauguration from the passing of said decrees, did not rest. During this period of just over a week, it has taken significant measures, including:

1. raising the level of the minimum wage and retirement benefits, thereby nullifying the austerity measures adopted by the governments of the Băsescu presidency (notably the Boc government) under the diktats of the IMF, Berlin, and Brussels;

2. announcing a tax exemption for wages of less than € 500 (yes: a month ago in Romania, an EU member state, many employees still paid taxes on wages of € 300 in cities where the rent of a room in a shared flat rarely costs less than 100 € – food prices in supermarkets being roughly at Hungarian levels, i.e. not far from those in Austria).

Not only do these two measures “set a bad example” for all southern and eastern European countries feeling the temptation to shake off the yoke of German ordo-liberalism and to turn to growth policies, but they directly affect the German capital. Germany (i.e. the Bavarian capital and its Austrian auxiliaries) has recently become the main external investor in Romania, followed by France, while the United States (still very present in the early 2000s) seemed, from the presidency of Obama and his Asia Pivot, to be passing the button. The high profitability of these investments (Romanian companies generally presenting a double rate of profit compared to the euro zone average) is mainly based on the unrestrained exploitation of a slave labor force (with a minimum wage precisely calculated in such a way as to allow the miserable survival of an individual without a family and with no rent to pay – the Romanians being, as most Eastern Europeans, usually owners of an apartment in poor condition redeemed from the state at the beginning of the 1990s), resulting in very low social and geographical mobility, an unprecedented demographic decline and the highest emigration rate of non-African countries in the world (higher than that of Syria – including the war period!).

So far, however, I think it would have stayed in the field of the negotiable: some tax gifts to the big German “investors” (like E.on Ruhrgas, who took control of the former state gas monopoly in Transylvania, charging German gas prices to the population for the gas it buys cheap… from Russia), and Munich would have calmed down, leaving as always the small fish and the French investors to pay the expenses of the new policy (the French, however, very present in retail, would not complain too loudly about Grindeanu seeking to add steroids to the purchasing power of the Romanian middle class …).

But here’s the thing: the odious PSD government also plans to create:

* A Sovereign Development and Investment Fund (FSDI), such as in Norway, France, Saudi Arabia, etc., which would be fed by the profits of enterprises which remained under state ownership (profits? – this sounds so strange, given that previous governments have claimed that these were “bottomless holes” that should be urgently privatized …), and would serve in particular to endow Romania with the agribusiness links (processing, canning, bottling) it lacks between its enormous agricultural fertility and an internal market of 18 million consumers mostly convinced (rightly) that food produced in Romania is both healthier and more palatable than imported food.

Here, from the point of view of the colonial metropolis, one enters the domain of the non-negotiable. By such a measure, Romania simply plans to unilaterally challenge the status of an extractive colony (source of practically free raw materials and inexpensive migrant labor) assigned to it in the present world order, claiming – if not complete sovereignty, of which it does not have the military means – the status of a productive colony comparable to that of Hungary (where the average wage is about 50% higher, and which suffers less population bleeding to migration).

Thus, here’s who’s revolting right now: Germany, as a colonial metropolis, is revolting against the democratically elected government of Romania (regardless of its numerous charges of corruption – no more and no less than the previous ones or the following ones, or, indeed, those of Europe at large) and seeking to overthrow it by means of a putsch uniting the efforts of the German political foundations (F. Adenauer, F. Ebert, R. Luxemburg) with those of the Soros-financed “civil society” – which, this time , does not even bother to pretend to be apolitical or “trans-partisan”, brazenly calling to call back the government of former European Commissioner Dacian Cioloş, a “technocrat” never elected by anybody, imposed without a parliamentary majority by Johannis in 2014 as the result of a previous Bucharest “maidan”, and which has just been dismissed from power by a massive vote condemning its policy of the previous two years.

It must be said that the EU, now so vehement in its praise, had not facilitated Cioloş’s task: considering that it now controlled its Romanian plantation directly, the colonial metropolis had even decided to cut back a little more, as a result of which Cioloş’s record on the absorption of structural funds, for example, was even more catastrophic than the (notably bad) one of the previous governments. Here is the competent and virginal elite that the “young, handsome, and free” of A. Merkel and G. Soros are currently attempting to restore to power, in defiance of the popular vote. In the light of such developments, we can now consider as completed the EU’s transition (in its aims and methods) to a parasitic structure comparable to the infamous United Fruit Company in Latin America before the neo-Bolivarian revolutions. Death squads are not yet on the scene, but keep up the good work, Mr. Johannis: with effort, you can still become another Pinochet!

Ukraine persists in heavy bombardments on residential areas. Evacuations underway.

Posted: 02 Feb 2017 10:04 AM PST
February 2, 2016 – Fort Russ News –

– Christelle Neant in DONiPRESS, translated by Tom Winter –
« We just witnessed a woman with diabetes conducted in an armored transport to be evacuated » Screen capture from the video below.

Although over the last 24 hours the number of shelling by the Ukrainian army on the People’s Republic of Donetsk (DPR) was almost halved (with 1,617 bombardments including 40 multiple rocket launches), the Ukrainian army keeps on targeting civilian dwellings and residential areas, causing further casualties among the population.
Christelle Neant, the DøniPress reporter, writes in French, but is multi-lingual, and in the video above, reports in English.

These bombings, mainly targeting northern Donetsk, Makeevka, Gorlovka and Yasinovataya, damaged or destroyed 38 buildings, including 17 in Makeyevka alone. They also wounded seven civilians, three of them in Donetsk, one in Makeyevka and two in Kominternovo, but the situation could still change.

As for the army of the RPD, the shots of the last 24 hours left one dead and one wounded.

The shootings this morning also hit the Scheglovskaya Mine in Makeyevka, injuring a miner and forcing 131 miners, who were underground, to evacuate.

The bombardments continue despite heavy losses suffered by the Ukrainian army during the last days, with more than 200 dead and wounded.

Given the continuing bombardment of the Kievskiy district and Yasinovataya (three shells hit the area close to the Yasinovataya railway station this morning), the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the RPD has evacuated nearly 80 civilians (including 12 children) from the most dangerous areas since Tuesday night.

And in view of the build-up of men and equipment near Avdeevka, the Ukrainian army looks to be persistent in its offensive attempts. Thus the intelligence services of the RPD detected the installation of a tactical battalion of the 25th brigade of assault, namely volunteers of Pravy Sektor, Azov and Dniepr-1. In total, this group includes 10 infantry companies, 15 tanks, 20 infantry fighting vehicles and 16 mortars.

Massive protests rock Romania … with the stench of Soros

Posted: 02 Feb 2017 09:19 AM PST
February 2nd, 2017 – Fort Russ News –
– By Alexa Balan, exclusively for FRN –

** The following is an official statement, in Mr. Balan’s capacity as President of the Union of Banat Romanians, in Serbia **

Yesterday’s massive demonstrations in Romania , where around 100,000 people gathered, were sponsored and organized by Soros financed NGO’s in Romania, and by the Soros funded political party, the USR. They were praised and supported by the openly masonic German president of Romania, Klaus Iohanis, who incited violence and called for a revolution.

This impostor won a rigged election, he is against Romanian interests and calls for the so-called Europeanization of Romania. Their excuse for rioting was the the judiciary reform laws adopted by the new Socialist government, which are amnesty laws which would halt the political persecution of patriotic anti-globalist politicians in Romania, at the hands of the CIA and Soros funded anti-corruption agency DNA. These protect the interests of multinational companies, and prosecutes nationalists by indicting them with false charges.

The present Socialist PSD government was elected by an overwhelming majority vote in December, over 50%, on their promises they would halt the further selling of Romanian resources to foreigners, their anti IMF stance, Eurosceptic views, raising of pensions, eliminating taxes etc. The USR Soros party which led the maidan protest yesterday, only won 8% in the election. They recruited young deluded people over the internet, their aim was to storm the parliament building and seize power. They openly called for the lynching of government officials by publishing their addresses and phone numbers on the net.

Had they not been defeated by our brave police forces in Bucharest yesterday, they would have set up tents and other maidan like structures in the Bucharest city centre, Victoria square, and we all know to where that leads. We, the Romanians of Serbia condone the Soros protest and so do the majority of Romanians in Romania, and all over the world in our diaspora. My view is shared also by the Serbian Radical Party leader Dr. Seselj, whom I visited today.

Avdeevka in the sights of Ukrainian propaganda war

Posted: 02 Feb 2017 08:44 AM PST
February 2, 2017 –
By Eduard Popov for Fort Russ – translated by J. Arnoldski –

I just finished having a long conversation with my friends in Donetsk. I also managed to Skype with residents of Avdeevka who just today managed to leave the city. In summary, I’ve received information on the situation in Avdeevka (a satellite city of Donetsk under the control of Ukrainian armed forces since the beginning of the conflict) and other cities of the Donetsk People’s Republic.

My friends in Avdeevka have personally observed Ukrainian tanks concentrated between residential buildings despite the fact that tanks are prohibited from being present in residential areas according to the Minsk Agreements. Thus, Ukraine is deeply violating the terms of the truce, and this time there is incriminating documentary evidence. In one photo, right next to the UAF tanks is an OSCE car and observer (sic!). Now not only Ukraine will come under fiery criticism, but also this international organization which has repeatedly been accused of being blind to the movement of Ukrainian military vehicles close to the demarcation line.

My friends in Avdeevka also spoke of the humanitarian situation in the city. Except for the industrial zones, the city has actually not been completely destroyed. Schools, kindergartens, and hospitals have remained unscathed. Yet Ukrainian television shows the town in ruins. Apparently, such footage was taken from another location, perhaps from a town in the DPR. Today a Ukrainian television channel was even convicted of fraud: a Ukrainian official from Mariupol was portrayed as a resident of Avdeevka begging UAF soldiers to not leave the city in a propaganda stunt. The supposedly widespread ruins in Avdeevka are probably also a result of falsification. According to my friends in the DPR, the republic’s troops have deliberately fired only at the Ukrainians’ frontline positions. Avdeevka itself is not being subjected by the DPR to fire – after all, many of the DPR soldiers are residents of the city. Shooting at the city would mean shooting at their families, friends, and neighbors.

Another startling fact relayed to me by acquaintances in Avdeevka is that a 9-storey apartment building in which their relatives live was subjected to heavy shelling this morning. Fortunately, the family managed to escape the apartment literally 30 minutes before the artillery bombardment, thus avoiding certain death. The artillery fire was recorded as coming from…UAF positions.

Now Poroshenko’s “cunning plan” is becoming clear upon his return from Germany under the pretext of “saving Avdeevka” from distress. Regardless of whether there will be a further UAF offensive or not, the Ukrainian authorities have launched a massive information attack against the DPR and Russia. The target of this propaganda campaign is Ukrainian audiences and Western readers. They are being fed stories of mass destruction and “humanitarian catastrophe” in Avdeevka that is blamed on Donbass forces. The neighboring Donbass cities in the DPR, however, have reported no such real catastrophe.

In doing so, Ukraine is preparing the ground for a continued offensive on the DPR and LPR and is concentrating military equipment and manpower. It is still unclear whether this offensive operation will be continued or if Ukraine will suspend it due to enormous losses and pressure from the international community. We plan to discuss this in more detail in our next sitrep.

To be continued…

Kiev between America and Russia: Part 1 – Trump through Russian Eyes

Posted: 02 Feb 2017 05:32 AM PST
February 2, 2017 – Fort Russ –
By Eduard Popov – translated by J. Arnoldski –

Eduard Popov, born in 1973 in Konstantinovka, Donetsk region, is a Rostov State University graduate with a PhD in history and philosophy. In 2008, he founded the Center for Ukrainian Studies of the Southern Federal University of Russia in Rostov-on-Don. From 2009-2013, he was the founding head of the Black Sea-Caspian Center of the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies, an analytical institute of the Presidential Administration of Russia. In June 2014, Popov headed the establishment of the Representative Office of the Donetsk People’s Republic in Rostov-on-Don. He has actively participated in humanitarian aid efforts for his native Donbass and has been a guest contributor to various Donbass media, such as the Lugansk-based Cossack Media Group. Popov has actively contributed to Fort Russ since June, 2016.

Foreword from Dr. Eduard Popov: I am grateful to have the opportunity to be featured on the pages of the authoritative and brilliant Fort Russ and be able to offer readers my views on the prospects of the emerging rapprochement between the United States and Russia, as well as the place in this two-way process occupied (or to be occupied) by Ukraine. Below is the first installment in a three-part series on this evermore pressing topic.

The outcome of negotiations between Moscow and Washington are far more important for the US than Russia.

On Saturday evening, January 28th, a telephone conversation was held between Vladimir Putin and the new US President, Donald Trump. This was the first telephone conversation between the two leaders since Trump assumed office. Both sides hurried to release statements on the results of the talks. Perhaps the main agreement reached by the presidents over their 40 minute conversation is the mutually recognized necessity of improving bilateral relations.

As follows from the press-service releases from the White House and the Kremlin, the presidents discussed a wide range of international issues, the main of which was the Middle East. Judging by his statements, Donald Trump seriously intends to eliminate ISIS, something which is impossible without Russia’s participation.

Both sides also evaluated the outcome of the talks with optimism. According to a representative of the US Administration, a green light was given during the talks to improving relations between the two countries. Yet an altogether different assessment of the negotiations is to be found in the American liberal media opposed to Trump. By such publications as Politico, The Hill, and others, Trump is harshly criticized by left-liberals on all fronts – from his ban on the entry of citizens from several Muslim countries to his desire to improve relations with Russia. In regards to the latter, Senator John McCain and several other American politicians have been particularly active, even promising to prevent this by all means through Congress. Side by side are leveled very rigid and adamant allegations of a connection between supposed interference by Russian hackers in the American elections and Trump’s policy towards Russia. Not even concrete initiatives, but Trump’s intent to improve relations alone is seen through the prism that Russia allegedly helped Trump win the elections, thereby now obliging him to « make it up » to Putin. Trump’s critics’ plan is very simple: they strive to drive a wedge in front of any step aimed at improving bilateral relations with Russia, which in itself will be characterized as a serious blow to the legitimacy of the new US President, thereby tying his hands.

However, as far as we can judge based on an analysis of the left-liberal Ameri
