According to Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov, Russian authorities have nothing to do with the supply of equipment and vehicles to Donbass and are not sending Russian citizens there. Peskov stated this in response to a Ukrainian journalist’s question on where the army of the Donetsk People’s Republic acquired tanks.
Peskov advised journalists to ask Kiev where Donbass gets its tanks from because, after all, Donbass is still the territory of Ukraine.
“I guess you can ask Moscow and Kiev with the same effect about where these tanks are from – on this I do not possess absolute information. I can only say, of course, [these tanks are] not from Russia. This is still Ukraine. These regions are not controlled by Kiev, but are still Ukraine…Therefore, one should probably ask Kiev why such a situation has developed,” he said.
Peskov also stressed that Russian authorities are not sending volunteers to Donbass, but that Russians go there of their own accord.
“No volunteers are being sent there through official channels. Of course, we know that there are citizens of Russia who have voluntarily gone to the region to defend people from the aggressive actions of Ukraine’s armed forces,” Peskov stated.

Denis Seleznev is a sociologist who lives a few miles from the frontline and sees explosions out his window. Recently, I also translated his video about artillery positions along the frontline, the nature and locations of hits on civilian areas.

Syrian special forces, supported by Russian air forces, are continuing their successful offensive on ISIS’ holdout in the city of Al-Bab in the east of the Aleppo province. The terrorists’ stronghold is almost completely surrounded, trapping the militants in a cauldron.
The Syrian army, led in its charge by Syrian Tiger special forces, have inflicted another blow on the terrorist gangs’ defenses and advanced on Al-Bab, cutting off ISIS’ last supply route and insulating the city from Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor – from where reinforcements and arms were transferred to the eastern part of Aleppo province.
Russian air forces have afforded massive support to the advancing SAA divisions by striking the communications and strongholds of the Islamists in the area.
Simultaneously, Turkish troops and pro-Turkish militants have ousted terrorists from the village of Bzaakh following fierce firefights. After several hours, they retreated in the face of a counter-attack which featured an ISIS suicide bomber exploding a car packed with explosives inside the village, thus killing and wounding a number of Operation Euphrates Shield fighters.
A number of ISIS militants have been routed from towns south of their eastern Aleppo stronghold. On Tuesday morning, Tiger Forces and other units liberated the village of Mazula and the nearby Tel-Hawara hill, attacking Islamists from the newly-taken town of Ayushi.
In just a few hours following the liberation of Hawara and Mazula, Tiger Forces took control of the village of Birat al-Bab north of the city of Aran, thus closing in to four kilometers from the southern outskirts of ISIS’ Al-Bab stronghold.
Over the course of the successful offensive, SAA troops have established fire control over the highway leading to Tadef, the main supply line of the terrorists holding out in Al-Bab.
In addition, reports suggest that firefights are ongoing in the town of Abu Jabbar east of Ayushi.
It remains unclear whether Syria’s armed forces will continue forward to liberate Al-Bab or shift their focus to Der Khafer, which would allow Turkish forces and their allies from the “opposition” subject to Ankara’s leadership as part of the Euphrates Shield Operation to sweep ISIS out of the area.

Mikhail Tolstykh, better known by his nom de guerre Givi, died after a bomb exploded in his office in the separatist stronghold of Donetsk just after 6 a.m. local time on February 8.
Eastern Ukraine has seen its bloodiest period of clashes since 2015, with at least 35 deaths in little over a week. Givi’s assassination follows a string of high-profile deaths in the ranks of Donbass commanders, all of which are likely to have been perpetrated by Ukrainian intelligence services and their US counterparts.
The monitoring mission of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) has confirmed that radical and nationalist forces in Kiev are responsible for the latest escalation in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donbass, violating the Minsk agreement.
In this outtake, President Putin explains the reasons behind the latest conflict escalation.

– BFMTV, translated from French by Tom Winter –
Even though Russia never received the two helicopter carriers ordered from France, the country is preparing to build its own ships thanks to tricolor know-how.
The operation was a complete fiasco. Even though in 2015 France finally decided not to hand over to Russia the two Mistral ships that it had ordered, it would seem that Moscow has taken all the benefits of this breach of contract.
This is in any case what Alexey Rakhmanov’s words suggest. The president of the Russian Shipyards (OSK) is indeed quite pleased to have acquired French « know-how. » As quoted in the Le Canard Enchaîné: « If we take into account the fact that France has returned to Russia the money paid for the construction of the ships, this know-how was transmitted to us for nothing, » he said ironically at year-end.
Result: OSK is preparing to build its own helicopter carriers, which should resemble Mistrals like two drops of water.
Recall that the two ships, commissioned in 2010, were built on the shipyards of Saint-Nazaire, in collaboration with their Russian counterparts of OSK. The Ukrainian conflict, in which Paris had taken a stand against Russia, subsequently pushed Francois Hollande to suspend – and finally cancel – the delivery of the two ships to Moscow.*
According to Le Canard Enchaîné, this decision should have permitted selling Poland – also on the outs with Russia – several Airbus Caracal helicopters, for about 3 billion euros. Except that the new Conservative government, to general surprise, decided to break the negotiations, preferring American Lockheed-Martin and the Italian-British Agusta-Westland to the Airbus machines. With, at key, a mini diplomatic crisis between Paris and Warsaw.
Although France finally found a buyer for its two Mistral ships, in this case Egypt, the government could surely have done without this episode of which it seems to be the big loser.
